Loose Threads

Pull one letter out of each word so a real word is left behind. Read top to bottom, the pulled letters spell a hidden word.

Worked example

How it works

  1. SNAKE: the only letter you can pull and still leave a word is the N, which leaves SAKE. Thread so far: N.
  2. FLOAT: only the O works, which leaves FLAT. Thread: N O.
  3. BEAST has three options: B (EAST), A (BEST) or S (BEAT). HEARD has four: E (HARD), A (HERD), R (HEAD) or D (HEAR).
  4. Now read down: N, O, then B, A or S, then E, A, R or D. The only word that fits is NOSE, so BEAST gives up its S and HEARD gives up its E. Solved!
